Ethan Byrne-Jones, 20, from Betws Garmon secures full-time role at Colin Jones Plastering Ltd

Ethan was referred onto the Active Inclusion project with Môn CF by his JCP Universal Credit Work Coach at the Caernarfon Job Centre back in February, as he needed support to search and apply for jobs.

Ethan faced multiple barriers that were preventing him from searching for work such as a lack of IT skills and a lack of confidence in completing application forms. Additionally, due to living in a very rural area, public transport was too infrequent to be utilised so a ‘close to home’ job was needed.

Ethan had previously completed a Level 1 Diploma in Construction Skills, was searching for work in the construction sector and wanted advice on how to obtain his CSCS card. Due to Covid 19 restrictions many training providers were unable to deliver this course, so an external training provider was sourced that delivered the course remotely. Ethan completed the Health and Safety in Construction course and following his attendance he was quickly notified that he had passed!

Following the course and attaining his CSCS card, Ethan was successful in securing a Paid Supported Placement labouring for a local plastering company, Colin Jones Plastering Ltd. Ethan was able to get to and from the placement using his motorbike.

Ethan has now completed his 16-week paid work placement and has been kept on in full time employment with Colin Jones Plastering Ltd. We caught up with them both last week and here’s what they had to say…

Colin of Colin Jones Plastering Ltd “Môn CF have been great. Rhian helped me to secure a candidate within a week of my enquiry and helped me to secure a great plasterer in Ethan. Ethan has been excellent, I am very happy, and I have kept him on in full-time employment. It’s all worked out great for me personally, and I am really pleased with Môn CF and the staff who have helped me, and the service provided to myself as a business, it has been fantastic.”

Ethan added “I would like to thank Môn CF, who have helped me in securing a full-time role with Colin Jones Plastering Ltd and helped me with my training. Thank you to my mentor Rhian for helping me in my search and for securing my placement and thank you to Carys for all of the support provided for the duration of my placement. Môn CF have been a huge help to me, and I am very happy to have secured a full-time job which I am really enjoying”.

“I am much happier within myself as I feel I am more independent now that I am earning a wage. I really enjoy coming to work every day and experiencing new skills. My experience with Môn CF has been very positive and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for work”.
