The word confidence is shown through a ripped piece of paper

At Môn Communities Forward (Môn CF), we know that unexpected job loss can cause immense stress, especially when you have a family to support. When the rug is pulled out from under your feet with little to no notice, finding quick financial stability becomes the top priority, even while keeping your eye on long-term career goals.

CW’s recent journey highlights how a dual-focused approach, securing immediate income while building qualifications for the future - can turn a sudden crisis into a clear path forward.

Facing Sudden Change

CW came to Môn CF after being let go from his role at a local holiday park in Anglesey at short notice. With a family relying on him, the sudden loss of income created intense pressure to find work as quickly as possible.

CW brought a rich and varied employment history to the table, including sales, hospitality, and running his own plastering business. Facing such high-stress circumstances, however, left his confidence understandably shaken.

Our primary goal was clear: react quickly, keep things structured, and relieve the immediate pressure while keeping his spirits high.

Step 1: Laying the Groundwork for Long-Term Goals

CW was particularly keen to re-enter the construction sector by gaining his CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme). With friends already working in the industry, he knew that holding this qualification would unlock solid labouring opportunities.

To help him get there without overwhelming him, Môn CF mapped out clear, manageable steps:

  • Safety Training: CW completed his Lantra Health and Safety course on May 28th.

  • The Touchscreen Test: On June 23rd, he sat his official test - with an incredible score of 49 out of 50!

  • The Card: With a near-perfect score under his belt, his official CSCS card was ordered and is now on its way.

Passing the test with such high marks provided a vital boost to CW’s self-belief right when he needed it most.

Step 2: Practical Job Search & Immediate Relief

Alongside his training, CW and his Mentor worked closely on his immediate job search. They gave his CV a complete refresh to better showcase his adaptable skill set, uploaded it to Indeed, and conducted regular job searches together both in-person and via email.

That consistent momentum delivered the quick result CW desperately needed: he successfully secured a full-time position as a cleaner for a holiday company in Anglesey!

A Stronger Position for the Future

While cleaning isn't CW's ultimate career goal, securing full-time work immediately lifted the heavy financial burden off his shoulders. He can now support his family comfortably while waiting for his CSCS card to arrive.

By keeping positive, staying engaged, and taking things one step at a time, CW transformed a stressful situation into a secure landing. He is now in a position of stability - ready to comfortably transition into the construction industry on his own terms, without the pressure of an empty bank account.

CW’s story is a fantastic reminder that a temporary step sideways can give you the breath of fresh air you need to step forward into your dream role.
