Cylch Meithrin Assistant

£13 per hour

We are hiring an Assistant on behalf of a local Welsh‑medium early years setting to support children aged 2 to school age with learning and play. The role helps create a warm, nurturing environment and supports families on their Welsh‑language journey.

Job Overview

The Cylch Meithrin Moelfre: We are passionate about giving all children the opportunity to play, learn and grow through Welsh, and aim to see new Welsh speakers flourish. The Cylch Meithrin offers opportunities for children in the area to learn through play. We also work very closely with parents and carers to provide them with support and information on choosing a Welsh language education, giving their children Welsh and where to start learning Welsh.

Responsibilities

Care and Education:

  • Support the Leader/Manager to ensure provision and service of the highest standard by developing activities and facilities to their full potential

  • Support the Leader/Manager to ensure that every child and their family are treated with respect while meeting the children’s social and emotional needs

  • Provide first-class care and education for children in our care

  • Support the aim of creating a Welsh language and cultural ethos within the provision, implementing the Immersion 

Methodology

  • Implement the principles and objectives of the Curriculum for Wales

  • Contribute to planning the work and activities of the cylch in the short and long term

  •  Implement various programmes such as the Curiosity Approach, Makaton friendly, Elklan, Jabadeio, Healthy Pre-School, Designed to Smile Scheme

  • Support the team to monitor, evaluate and assess the progress and development of each child.

  • Compliance with Standards:

  • Support the Leader/Manager to ensure compliance with the Flying Start, Early Education and Childcare Offer schemes

  • Follow the guidance, procedures and policies of the setting

  • Comply with the National Mandatory Standards and Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) Childcare and Play Regulations

  • Follow Safeguarding and Child Protection procedures at all times

  • Promote equality and inclusivity, reject discrimination, and address issues in accordance with the Equality and Diversity Policy

General:

  • Be professional and attend meetings as required

  • Commit to ongoing professional development. Attendance at occasional weekend training will be expected

  • Undertake any additional duties relevant to the role as directed by the Leader/Manager

Requirements

Essential 

  • Interpersonal and communication skills of the highest standard in order to work with children and their families in  a sensitive, positive and unprejudiced manner.

  • Ability to work as a positive member of the team.

  • Communicates effectively in spoken and written Welsh and English, or committed to developing Welsh language skills through Mudiad Meithrin schemes.

  • Relevant professional early years / childcare qualification, at a minimum of level 3

  • Knowledge and understanding of how children learn and develop

  • Knowledge of Curriculum for Wales / Foundation Learning

  • Knowledge of best practice when caring for children from birth up until school age

  • Must undertake an enhanced DBS as part of the role

Desireable 

  • Knowledge and understanding of current regulations andpractices, including:

· National Minimum Standards and CIW Regulations

· Estyn

· Flying Start

  • Recent experience of providing quality early years care and/or education

  • Experience of working in partnership with parents/carers in order to support child development
