Volunteering Week 2020 - Alison's Story

Alison came to Môn CF for support in finding a job after being unable to do so due to ill - health for a few years. Alison, eager to learn, decided that the best way to gain some experience and refresh her skillset was to start to volunteering. Alison and her Mentor decided that the local Cancer Research UK Superstore would be a good place to start, as there were various roles in store that she could try out. Alison is self admittedly ‘not very good with technology’ so using a till was something she was nervous about doing. Ever eager to improve, Alison started off by doing a shadow shift, and before she knew it was volunteering at the store for three days a week. Alison says she loves it, she loves meeting people and its really helped to boost her confidence, ready to get back into work. Alison has even completed some work on the tills! Adie, theAssistant Store Manager says “Since Alison joined her skills within the store have improved massively, she started off doing till work and took to it like a duck to water from there! Alison would process our kid’s clothes, steam them and price. She's an asset to our team of volunteers and we very much enjoy working alongside her!”
